To "with" or not to "with": Answering all your questions about respectful language and disability

Join us to hear Laura Butler and Bev Harp share how you are using a person’s preferred language to refer to their relationship to disability is critical to building a positive relationship. The person needs to be able to trust that you will use their preferred language when communicating with others such as when having conversations around disability disclosure and/or accommodations.

Data Visualizations with ggplot2 in R

Join us for the final installment of the R Workshop Series, where the focus will be on creating data visualizations in R. Learn how to build graphics using the ggplot2 package in R. Participation in the first installment of the R Workshop Series, Intro to R, or a working knowledge of R/RStudio is highly recommended.

OER 101 for Health Sciences

Open educational resources (OER) are free and open access alternatives to commercial course materials. In this session, we will cover the background of textbook costs in the US and their impact on students, then go over what OER are and how they work (both practically and in terms of copyright). We will then address how to find, adopt, and create OER for health sciences. The concluding discussion will include recommended resources and ways to get involved with open education communities, as well as an overview of support available at UK.

Coffee Science Unfiltered: Session 3

Dr. Tonya Kuhl, Professor of Chemical Engineering and co-Director of the UC Davis Coffee Center, will lead the third session of Coffee Science Unfiltered. Dr. Kuhl will explore how the UC Davis Coffee Center is shaping the next generation of coffee experts through cutting-edge research, educational initiatives and industry partnerships. As a passionate coffee enthusiast and educator, she will discuss how scientific principles are applied to improve coffee production, with a focus on research in colloidal science and self-assembling fluid systems.
