2025 CCTS Spring Conference

20th Annual CCTS Spring Conference Pioneering Pathways: Innovative Trial Design in Translational Sciences April 1, 2025, 8 a.m–5 p.m. Central Bank Center, Lexington More information here.

REDCap Training Series: Intermediate Level

This training is designed for REDCap users who already know how to navigate the program and create a basic survey. Class Objectives:

BERD BITES: Air Pollution Monitoring and Modeling for Health Studies

BERD BITES: Air Pollution Monitoring and Modeling for Health Studies Air pollution exposure is the largest environmental risk to human health, associated with increased risk of premature death, cardiovascular diseases, respiratory diseases, metabolic diseases, and adverse birth outcomes. The presenters of this event will talk about different exposure assessment tools and opportunities in various levels (e.g., personal to national levels) to study the health impact of air pollution.   Presented by:

Clinical Research Coordinator 101

This blended-learning training session is designed for clinical research coordinators, clinical research associates, or staff members who function in this capacity.     This course provides basic information on coordinating clinical trials at the University of Kentucky and is appropriate for entry level positions or those new to the field. Because this training is designed as an entry level program, it does not provide continuing education credit. There will be no fee charged to employees of the University of Kentucky.

REDCap Training Series: Novice Level

For this training you should: NEVER USED REDCap Contact Brent before this class to get a REDCap account Class Objectives:

CRSO Training Series: Research Subject Calendar Functionality and Visit Tracking

Demonstrate the value of using the Clinical Trial Management System to manage participant timelines through: Simple and efficient visit tracking Centralized access and subject data visibility Presented by Eric Bucholz, PhD Research Systems Administrator, CRSO Stephanie Cason, CCRP Research Systems Educator IT Trainer Senior, CRSO Hany Elkholy, MCC Research Systems Educator IT Trainer Senior, CRSO

BERD BITES: P-value, Posterior Probability and Prior Distribution

As widely used as p-value in basic science and clinical trials, it is also greatly criticized. Alongside with p-value is Bayesian posterior probability. One idea that is widely spread is that p-value could be very close to Bayesian posterior probability for a one-sided hypothesis test, while those two are dramatically different for a two-sided test. In this talk, we argue that it is the choice of prior distribution other than the set up of a hypothesis testing that impacts the reconcilability or lack of it between p-value and posterior probability.

Clinical Research Update: Overcoming Research Objectification through Community-engaged and Participatory Research

The objective of the presentation is to discuss identification of and resolutions to challenges in clinical and translational science through a reliance on systems thinking. presented by: Milton Eder, Ph.D. Department of Family Medicine and Community Health University of Minnesota Medical School

BERD Bites: An introduction to potential outcomes causal inference

Causal inference methods provide an exciting framework through which observational data can be used to estimate causal effects. In this talk, we will introduce the foundational concepts of the potential outcomes framework and the “road map” for applying these methods to address causal questions in health research. Presenter: Erin Abner, PhD, MPH

CRSO Training Series: IAF Completion for a Clinical Trial

Join us for an overview of IAF completion for a clinical trial. Patty Coleman from the UK Clinical Research Support Office (CROS) will provide instructions for completing an IAF with specific focus on clinical trials. Rutika Patil from UK Collaborative Grant Services will discuss the CGS review and common issues that may delay the processing of an IAF. Emily Beggs from the UK Office of Sponsored Projects Administration (OSPA) will conclude the discussion with a look at how OSPA reviews the IAF prior to agreement execution and account establishment.
