Join us in the Little Fine Arts Library's Niles Gallery for a trip through American history with Dr. Patrick Lee Lucas.

An Associate Professor in the College of Design School of Interiors, Lucas will discuss his latest book, Athens on the Frontier: Grecian-Style Architecture in the Splendid Valley of the West, 1820-1860.

Blending architectural history, intellectual history, and a study of material culture, Lucas shows how builders across the American frontier emulated the architectural styles of the ancient Greeks, creating shared regional identities and celebrating the democratic principles that lay at the foundation of American cultural ideals.

Copies of Athens on the Frontier will be available for purchase, and a book signing will follow the lecture. The event is free and open to the public.
