2024 UK Graduate Appalachian Research Symposium & Arts Showcase
Alongside the University of Kentucky (UK) Appalachian Center and Appalachian Studies Program, UK’s Graduate Appalachian Research Community (GARC) is proud to continue our tradition of symposia on Appalachia with the 2024 UK Graduate Appalachian Research Symposium & Arts Showcase to be held Saturday, March 2, 2024, in the first-floor atrium of the Healthy Kentucky Research Building on the University of Kentucky’s campus.
We are excited to announce our keynote speaker. We will be joined at the Symposium by award-winning Appalachian author Alison Stine. Alison Stine is the author of the novel Trashlands (MIRA / HarperCollins), longlisted for the 2022 Reading the West Book Award, a finalist for the Ohioana Book Award, and longlisted for the 2022 Mark Twain American Voice in Literature Award. Her first novel Road Out of Winter won the 2021 Philip K. Dick Award.
We invite anyone doing work on Appalachia to submit an abstract to present. We strongly encourage undergraduate and graduate student presentations on their research or creative works (poetry, films, musical performances, photography, etc.). The full Call for Proposals is available online. The Symposium is free to attend.
