Research Scholars Program welcomes 4th cohort, advancing health care perspectives

The University of Kentucky’s Research Scholars Program (RSP) has welcomed its fourth cohort made up of six faculty whose expertise spans a broad range of research foci. The program is aimed at advancing research by promoting the success of a diverse group of faculty.

16 faculty named 2024-25 University Research Professors

Established by the Board of Trustees in 1976, the professorships program recognizes excellence across the full spectrum of research at UK.

Postdoctoral program deadline 11/6

The Office of the Vice President for Research is seeking applications for its postdoctoral fellowship programs (Lyman T. Johnson Fellowship and University Research Fellowship), designed to diversify the pipeline of candidates qualified to become academic leaders in their fields. The Inclusive Postdoctoral Enrichment Program (IPEP) within this postdoctoral fellowship aims to provide an academic curriculum and enriching experience for populations underrepresented in their disciplines. Applications are due November 6.

Enrichment Split Change for Complex Grants

The Office of the Vice President for Research (OVPR), through the University of Kentucky Research Foundation (UKRF), returns 10% of recovered Facilities and Administrative (F&A) costs on grant expenditures to units with a single Principal Investigator (PI), and up to 16% of recovered F&A if more than one unit is involved in the research project. This program, termed enrichment, is an incentive program meant to enrich the research taking place within the project.

Generative AI Use in Research | UK ADVANCE Recommendations

The public release of generative artificial intelligence (generative AI) tools represents a significant moment for the University of Kentucky’s research and scholarly enterprise. Since late 2022, the capabilities of generative AI have proliferated and advanced at a rapid pace. Machine learning and artificial intelligence are established methods for use in research, but generative AI is novel in that it produces content—text, code, image, sound, video—based on user input and dialogue and presents additional questions.

TikTok and UK Researcher Impact

In June 2023, the federal government issued an interim rule that prohibits use of the social media app TikTok on any device being used in furtherance of a contract or project funded by federal monies. That includes UK-owned devices, as well as devices that are the employee’s own but used for work as part of a bring-your-own-device (BYOD) program. There are still some questions as to the scope of this rule, and the UK Office of Legal Counsel is working to provide more general guidance to the university community.
