Introduction to Text Mining with Chronicling America Newspapers

Interested in learning about the millions of digitized newspapers in the Library of Congress's Chronicling America collection and the types of insights you can gain through quantitative analysis of them? Come join us for this hands-on workshop, which will cover:        - Accessing historical newspapers through Chronicling America's user interface.    - Sending and receiving data between computers with Application Programming Interfaces (APIs)

Declutter Your Directories Workshop

Whether we're needing a new system to keep class files organized, struggling to manage large amounts of research data, or just constantly losing important files, we can all benefit from being smart about how we organize our files and folders. This workshop will provide strategies for personal file management, keeping digital material well-organized, and creating well-documented and reusable datasets.

Intro to R Workshop

Join us for the first installment of the R Workshop Series, where you will learn the basics of R and RStudio. You will learn how to install and run packages, do basic arithmetic, create and name objects, work with functions, create and subset vectors, and much more. No previous experience with R or coding needed to participate in this workshop.

Navigating and Implementing the NIH Data Management and Sharing Policy at UK

The NIH’s Data Management and Sharing (DMS) Policy, which went into effect in January 2023, has established new requirements for grant applicants to put forward a plan explaining how their research data will be made accessible to other researchers and the public. At this session, Research Data Librarian Isaac Wink will cover the major elements of the policy researchers need to know and provide guidance on writing successful data management and sharing plans. Specific topics will include:

Beyond the Hype Cycle: Generative AI in Work, Learning, and Life

We are approaching the two-year anniversary of the public release of ChatGPT, which ushered in not only a dynamic, sometimes frenetic pace of technological development and use cases, but also a similarly energetic discussion on the value, meaning, and implications of generative AI for the future of work, learning, and life. There are many competing claims among experts, thought leaders, and non-experts alike.

ChatGPT as Research Assistant? A Hands-On Experiment

Where do generative AI tools like ChatGPT fit into the research process for students, and how does it compare to other methods, like web searches or library resources? Join UK Libraries for AI Literacy Week at our new digital scholarship center, The Stacks, as we put ChatGPT to the test. Participants will work in groups to respond to the same research question using one of three different tools: ChatGPT, Google, and UK Libraries resources. They will reflect on the methods they use to produce useful results and compare them to the methods used by other groups.

AI Literacy and Research: Teaching Students How to Critically Evaluate AI-Generated Information

Generative AI tools are constantly in flux, rapidly making advancements every day. Many instructors may agree that teaching students why and how to evaluate information generated from AI tools is important but find it challenging to implement. As part of The Stacks AI Literacy Week, in this session, you'll learn some practical strategies for teaching students effective habits of mind and how to evaluate AI-generated information, sharpening their own research processes.
