Scholars@UK: Portal Connects UK to Industry, Global Research Community

The Office for the Vice President for Research has launched a new online portal, Scholars@UK, open to the public that will facilitate access to research expertise and innovation at Kentucky’s flagship land-grant institution.

“Scholars@UK will allow the University of Kentucky to share with the world what we already know: UK scientists and scholars are moving their fields forward, asking the most challenging questions, making new discoveries and solving the toughest problems facing our state and the world,” said UK President Eli Capilouto.

Developed through a partnership between Elsevier Research Intelligence, the Office of the Vice President for Research, Research Analytics, and Research Information Services, Scholars@UK highlights the breadth and depth of research at UK through individual researcher profiles, network analysis, and direct access to research output and resources.

Scholars@UK is the latest acquisition by UK Research. Elsevier’s analytic and research discovery tools SciVal and Scopus were implemented at UK in 2019 and complement state-of-the-art technology that taps into the vast global repository of research data using more than 20 databases. The knowledge suite also provides a showcase for UK’s leading research experts, world-class facilities and enhances the visibility of research outputs in all disciplines. Through Scholars@UK connectivity features, researchers can increase opportunities for collaboration within UK’s research ecosystem and with colleagues at other institutions around the world.

Vice President for Research Lisa Cassis said, “With the rapid growth of sponsored research at the University of Kentucky, we want to communicate expertise and research success beyond the borders of our campus. This portal will highlight what we do at UK, and how the activity and efforts of our investigators connect to the global research community. This portal will allow researchers around the world and across different sectors of industry to find specific expertise and connect with UK scholars. Through Scholars@UK, we see the opportunity for users to discover new collaborators, develop fresh perspectives, and spark ideas for bold new research.”

Provost Robert DiPaola said, “The efforts of our faculty, staff and students make Kentucky an in-demand institution to perform innovative research. Scholars@UK is a new way to share this meaningful impact and demonstrate the vital role research plays in the university’s mission to improve the quality of life in Kentucky and beyond.”

Businesses will be able to easily gain access to relevant areas of expertise, facilitating the transfer of technology to the marketplace, and creating opportunities to expand research. The publicly available, online portal will allow users to access information related to published research, literature reviews, grants and contracts, funding sources, intellectual property, and physical university assets such as core facilities and equipment.
