Disease and Specialty-Specific Pilot Awards
In collaboration with the UK Centers listed below, we are now accepting applications for pilot awards in the following categories.
Letters of intent are due February 13, 2023.
Full applications will be due April 3, 2023.
CCTS/Markey Cancer Center
One award of up to $50,000, in total direct cost, will be made available to support a meritorious project that addresses cancer control, prevention, and/or community engagement topics that focus on the high incidence of cancer in Appalachian Kentucky. Potential studies could focus on psychosocial, behavioral, health policy, health services, cancer health equity, and other areas addressing cancer disparities in the region. Award duration is 12 months.
CCTS/Barnstable Brown Diabetes and Obesity Center
One award of up to $50,000, in total direct cost, will be made available to support a meritorious project that addresses basic and clinical translational aspects of diabetes and/or obesity. Award duration is 12 months.
CCTS/Spinal Cord and Brain Injury Research Center
One award of up to $50,000, in total direct cost, will be made available to support a meritorious project that addresses basic and clinical translational aspects of injuries to the spinal cord and brain that result in paralysis or other loss of neurologic function. Award duration is 12 months.
CCTS/Sanders-Brown Center on Aging
One award of up to $50,000, in total direct cost, will be given to a meritorious project that focuses on innovative basic, translational and clinical studies relevant to aging and/or Alzheimer’s disease (AD). Award duration is 12 months. Funding for this award will begin July 1, 2023.
- Basic science proposals with a focus on translational research relevant to AD are strongly encouraged and of particular interest.
- Clinical proposals that investigate risk factors, prevention, preclinical AD, caregiving, minority populations, vascular cognitive impairment, cognitive processes, and neuroimaging are also encouraged.
In addition, researchers are encouraged, where possible, to incorporate and communicate with investigators in the Sanders-Brown Center on Aging existing Cores (Clinical, Neuropathology, Data Management & Statistics, Biomarker and Outreach & Recruitment) in order to strengthen their research plan.
The applicant must clarify how the pilot funding will potentially lead to major support to sustain the research efforts after the end of the one-year grant.
