Betsy Beymer-Farris University of Kentucky
Dr. Beymer-Farris is currently the Director of the Environmental and Sustainability Studies Program and Assistant Professor in the Department of Geography at the University of Kentucky. She holds a PhD degree in Geography from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. She is a political ecologist who draws heavily from the literatures of social-ecological resilience, environmental history, political economy, feminist theory, and global commodity chains. She has 19 years of experience working in Tanzania where she conducts research on “sustainably utilized” landscapes, (re)conceptualizing social-ecological resilience, gender and the environment, environmental policies, human rights, agro-food commodity chains, carbon forestry, and tropical resource management and conservation.
