Emerging Themes for Research Events

Emerging Themes for Research events are designed to showcase and discuss the latest advances and highlight cutting-edge research across fields of study associated with the emerging themes. The purpose of these events is to foster collaboration, identify emerging trends, and facilitate knowledge transfer.

The following events are open for UK faculty, trainees, and staff to attend:

August 15, 2024 Circadian and Sleep Health for a Healthy Kentucky (CASH KY) - Research Day 9 am - 3 pm, Healthy Kentucky Research Building, rm 150

August 16, 2024 Consortium for Understanding and Reducing Infectious Diseases in Kentucky (CURE-KY) - Open House 4-6 pm, Healthy Kentucky Research Building, Lobby

The CURE-KY Open House will take place on August 16 from 4-6pm in the HKRB Lobby and HKRB 150 to celebrate the establishment of Infectious Disease as an Emerging Research Area at UK. Guests can enjoy light refreshments, appetizers, and non-alcoholic beverages. The event will start off with opening remarks from Dr. Cassis and Dr. Messaoudi as well as feature MICRO Bingo and trivia games, with prizes for the winners. Additionally, there will be a raffle with more prizes. This will be a great opportunity to have fun and mingle with other infectious disease aficionados!

September 4, 2024 Consortium for Understanding and Reducing Infectious Diseases in Kentucky (CURE-KY) - Microbial Pathogenesis 4-6 pm, The Cornerstone

Researchers with active programs in the mechanisms by which microbes cause disease will present a one-slide overview of their research program to stimulate collaborations in this area. All those interested in infectious diseases are welcome to attend.

October 17, 2024 Consortium for Understanding and Reducing Infectious Diseases in Kentucky (CURE-KY) - Drug Discovery and Vaccines 4-6 pm, The Cornerstone

Researchers with active programs in therapeutics and vaccine development will present a one-slide overview of their research program to stimulate collaborations in this area. All those interested in infectious diseases are welcome to attend.

November 6, 2024 Consortium for Understanding and Reducing Infectious Diseases in Kentucky (CURE-KY) - Engineering Systems and Diagnostics 4-6 pm, The Cornerstone

Researchers with active programs in diagnostics, detection and elimination of microbes in the environment will present a one-slide overview of their research program to stimulate collaborations in this area. All those interested in infectious diseases are welcome to attend.

December 4, 2024 Consortium for Understanding and Reducing Infectious Diseases in Kentucky (CURE-KY) - Zoonotic Diseases 4-6 pm, The Cornerstone

Researchers with active programs in diseases that primarily impact animal health but have the potential to jump into humans (wild, livestock, and animal companions) and vectors that transmit microbes will present a one-slide overview of their research program to stimulate collaborations in this area. All those interested in infectious diseases are welcome to attend.
