The UK Women Innovators Network (UKWIN) aims to increase the participation of UK women in innovation, preparing them to take on leadership roles at all stages of the commercialization process—from idea generation and research to patenting and bringing products and processes to market. UKWIN provides a supportive forum where women innovators can share experiences, advice and strategies to advance their innovations.

Program activities include networking events, discussion roundtables, keynote speakers, education on the commercialization process and available resources, entrepreneurial training and access to coaches and mentors.

2024 UK WOMEN INNOVATORS NETWORK EVENT

On March 19, 2024, the UK Women Innovators Network (UKWIN) celebrated Women's History Month with its annual UKWIN event.

Taunya A. Phillips, Director of the UK Office of Technology Commercialization, kicked off the afternoon's festivities with introductory remarks, followed by an enlightening keynote address from Dr. Almesha L. Campbell, Associate Vice President for Research and Economic Development at Jackson State University.

The panel discussion, led by Dr. Kendra Hargis-Stenzel, featured accomplished female innovators who shared insights into their journeys and the pivotal role of innovation in driving progress. The panelists included Janine Barnett, Perinatal Research Assistant Director, College of Nursing; Dr. April Fernando, Associate Director, Center for Innovation in Population Health; Michelle Fernando, MA, Operations Director, College of Public Health; and Dr. Angela Gutierrez Echeverri, UK SRC Liaison, Postdoctoral Trainee.
